Boomkat Product Review:
**Limited edition, formerly only available on tour** Legendary Japanese out-rockers Boris share this split with Joe Volk, a Bristol-based singer-songwriter and former frontman for Gonga and Crippled Black Phoenix. Some five years after they mutually impressed at the Portishead-curated Nightmare Before Christmas for ATP, they've been brought together by Geoff Barrow's Invada imprint for a contrasting but complementary split session. Boris flex their widely divergent versatilities on the 'Cosmos' triptych, taking in a wash of cymbals and etheric chatter in part 1 before launching into their signature sludgy heaviness and soaring vocals cut with glitchy experimentalism in part 2 and drifting to the underwater/outer-space serenity of a beatless third part. Joe Volk's two-part contribution is the tender acoustic six-string and haunting chorales of 'Call To Sun' with its crafty twist in the tale, and a sublime solo instrumental for guitar, melodica and drone entitled 'Finland'.
