Boomkat Product Review:
PAN queue upfront rave tackle from Crystallmess and Toxe on the 2nd instalment to their limited edition, club-dedicated white label split series...
Following from a blink-and-miss 12” pairing M.E.S.H. with Tzusing, this one’s an all female throw down from Sweden’s Toxe and pivotal Parisian producer Crystallmess, who both approach the dance at between 120-140bpm in four shots of IDM techno, ruddy electro-house, and warped coupé décalé and zouk styles.
Toxe takes the A-side for a nostalgic drive with the balance of coiled, punchy techno drums and woozily reflective, cubist AFXian chords in ‘Maybe Tomorrow’, along with the scuzzier, lysergic electro-house twerk of ‘Kiss Kiss’, chock full of her signature, scurrying edits and gremlin vocaloids.
On the B-side Crystallmess shows why she’s a boss of the Parisian club scene with the brooding might of ‘Fear of A / Black Planet’ sounding out somewhere between Nkisi and Autechre, before ‘Atalaku’ brings the drums over seriously grubby bass and a smeared brass lead primed to turn the dance wonky at 4am.
