Boomkat Product Review:
Pensive modular dust 'n tones from The Sea and Cake's Sam Prekop.
On "Spelling" Sam Prekop expands his electronic universe with another expression of gentle control that shows the emotional capabilities of the modular synthesizer. As the "modular scene" gets progressively more tangled in self-reference, complexity and boring nonsense, it's frankly nice to hear an artist more usually associated with classic songwriting step over all the clamor and just do it right.
There's precious little complexity to wrangle with here, Prekop just takes 25 minutes to work cautiously and carefully with a short, soft synth sequence that twists and turns gently like a lullaby at bedtime composed by Steve Roach.
