Boomkat Product Review:
A long awaited return for Thomas Leboeg and Florian Zimmer's Iso68, who follow up on their two albums for Hausmusik with this fine collection of experimental jazz and electronica fusions. A band like Tied & Tickled Trio would probably be a decent point of reference for the kind of aesthetic explored by this album, melding adept live performances with distinctive electronic production elements to arrive at a sound that's at once forward thinking yet tinged with a certain amount of lounge lizardry. Making sense of the Weilheim scene vibes of tracks like 'Strange Strum' and 'Autistic Insect' is the presence of Notwist and Masha Qrella drummer Andreas Haberl, who's just one of a roster of musicians bringing more of a collaborative, big band feel to the record. At its best Space Frames serves up standouts like 'Plano Piloto', an awkward but cinematic miniature which sets up finale 'The Great Punster', which swerves off into electronically-enhanced free jazz before collapsing into an emotive coda filled with quietly downbeat chord drifts. Highly Recommended.
