Soundboy's Ashes Get Hacked up and Spat out in Disgust
Appleblim and Peverelist have been responsible for truly taking the Bristol dubstep scene to the forefront of the electronic music consciousness. In their individual guises both have taken the scene on similar trajectories, Appleblim, as joint head of Skull Disco and creator of some of the deadliest, deepest and most esoteric productions the scene has put forth, and Peverelist as Bristols anchorman behind the Rooted records shop, and the awesome Punch Drunk records, home to his personal brand of Berlin debted dubstep magic. Together they have always managed to separate and distinguish the Bristol scene (alongside other notables such as Pinch, H.E.N.C.H crew and Rob Smith) from the London dominated genre with considerable aplomb. By drawing on their mutual love and respect for the Berlin based sounds of Chain Reaction, Basic Channel, T++ and that deeper strain of techno in general, and incorporating it with their native Bristol's soundsystem culture the pair have converged with a properly deadly amalgamation of sounds. 'Circling' marries the atmospheric depth perception of the aforementioned Berlin techno legends, with a uniquely British rhythmic sensibility, running the narrow thread between 2 step's push, and dubstep's pull and emerging with a pefectly weighted tension. 'Over here' pushes deeper into these wide open spaces with another sinuous balancing act, fusing the best elements of both producers previous output into an alloy of dubstep perfection. ESSENTIAL PURCHASE!
