Boomkat Product Review:
Having won the recent Björk remix contest set up by Unicef (included here as 'Armour'), Judith Juillerat has got busy to produce her debut LP for Shitkatapult, with 'Soliloquy', a finely wrought selection of electronic compositions, the result. Whilst comparisons to the likes of Barbara Morgenstern and Psapp are inevitable, Jullerat has a distinctive enough bite to warrant your attention; coaxing an often noir tinged set of creaking electronic beats into a friendly face-off with thrumming instrumentation and her bluntly fragile vocals. Opening with 'Promenade Apéritive D'un Noctambule', Jullerat builds up a good head of steam through some thick beats and swirling soundscapes, before drawing it into contrast around her voice on 'Haphazard'. Elsewhere, 'Vola Au Vent' ferments micro-sound crackles with a jittery beat and analogue wash, brings to mind Radiohead's 'Kid A', 'Apple of Your Eye' builds a whole afternoon's worth of vocal Xeroxs around the chiming synths, whilst 'Pondlife' is a static drenched piece of spiralling electronica.
