Solar Light Emissions
Recorded between 2014-2017 this box set spans almost 4 hours of music, including three brand new albums pressed to vinyl: In Our Light, Solar Lunar and Illuminating Emissions, plus completely reworked CD versions of The Invisibles and Solar Lunar Light.
Anyone familiar with Andrew Hargreaves' work will no doubt be salivating at the prospect of the Tape Loop Orchestra being given such substantial room to fill, and the set is engrossing as you’d imagine; extending classical/drone works that steer clear of heavy-handed emotional signposts and instead evolve through gradual, barely perceptible changes that slowly pull you into the ether.
Each of the three vinyl albums in the trilogy spans celestial dimensions with patience and emotional restraint; from the choked-up, whispering strings of Illuminating, through the layered vapour trail Emissions and the quietly grandiose sweeping arrangements on And The Light Is Ours - it’s a moving affair that you'll sink deeply into if you’re a follower of recordings by William Basinski, Stars of The Lid, Deathprod or GAS.
The alternate version of The Invisibles takes the original collaboration with Beth Roberts and pushes it into ever more sublime territory, those exhaled strings and voices ebbing and flowing with a newly added orchestral swell that will tear at your heartstrings if you allow yourself to submit to its 40 minute duration. A beautiful close to a hugely immersive set.
