Boomkat Product Review:
Those in the know have long kept a sly eye on the movements of colourful Canadian producer Ghislain Poirier. Noted for his noxious blend of ragga, bashment and hiphop electronics for everyone from Intr_Version to Ninja Tune, Ghislain has a truly multi faceted catalogue that continues to refract into new territory with his latest shockout platter. Setting his sights on Soca this time, Ghislain invigorates the style with an almost technofied drum palette and nitrous fuelled synthlines giving the already rampantly uptempo and wildout sound a focussed ravers edge that'll bite any UK dancefloor in half. While we're generally not into producers ripping a style only to "whiten" it up, this is faithful to the original sound but manages to omit the often cloyingly cheesy melodies that put a lot of heads off Soca, so it's hats off to Ghislain for turning in a wicked version of a highly under-represented sound for the UK and further afield. If you loved Silverlink and Jammer's 'Message Is Love' or freakin wild dancing gear, this one's all yours! Big.
