Boomkat Product Review:
I knew very little about this band, or at least I did do before I heard this record and Googled my little heart out. You see it worried me so much that they sound so outrageously poppish (think Stina Nordenstam, Diane Cluck, Laura Veirs etc… but with a larger backing band) that I felt a little sick about the fact I hadn’t heard of them. I mean, what am I doing here? Twiddling my thumbs? Apparently the band think of themselves as a ‘tiny folk orchestra’ and I’ve got to agree with them on this, the scope for a jaunty folk joint is much more widescreen than usual, with piano, xylophone, guitar and a whole truckload of other odd instruments thrown into the mix for good measure. It’s hardly groundbreaking, but Foot Foot inject a sense of unpretentious joy into their songs which is a breath of fresh air from all the tree dancing LSD-laced free folk ramblings we’ve been served up of late. I imagine these guys are likely to prefer Jaffa Cakes than hash cakes, but what do I know? I’ll take a cup of Earl Grey and a Radio Times please.
