Boomkat Product Review:
[a]pendics shuffle otherwise known as eight frozen modules destroyed us with his twelve on narita a few weeks ago. the ultra-prolific kenneth james gibson, on two albums as eight frozen modules for kit clayton's orthlorng musork showed a heady approach to rhythm programming and harsh sounds, while not averse to occasionally fluffing it up with deep house styles. Other aliases such as dubloner and electronic music composer have built up a colorful and considerable discography on labels like planet mu, city slang, tigerbeat 6, force tracks and skor. His new [a]pendics shuffle release on proptronix, starts with a techno base but maximizes volume - vocal snips and sharp percussion, zig zagging melodies and bouncing bass - all the while maintaining a funky forward motion. Among them, 'twit and a half' toys with Mouse on Mars-like melodies, 'prefusely mine' bobs about on top of a Cologne influenced framework, and a Prince style vocal is chopped up on 'wasted space'. It’s all dance music for the discotheque, but also perfect for warped home sessions. Nice one Ken!
