Boomkat Product Review:
Sarin Smoke is the collaborative moniker of Yellow Swan Pete Swanson and Charalambides man Tom Carter, yes THAT Tom Carter who seems to appear on almost every record that appears from the blue smoke of the 'free folk' sphere, so why should you care about this album at all? Well for starters, Pete Swanson. the man doesn't put his name to anything less than genius, and this dual guitar improv battle is a tantalising excursion showing more than ever that Carter's work outside Charalambides can be just as arresting if not more so than the Charalambides catalogue. With a sound reminiscent of the shimmering Dead Man soundtrack from Neil Young or even the more recent work of Nick Cave and Warren Ellis there is a freedom and deep understanding between these two musicians that seems to make them perfect musical partners. The resulting waves of harmony and American primitive guitar wrangling is simply haunting and sticks in your head long after the record has finished.
