Boomkat Product Review:
Toronto's rising star Kevin McPhee drops a solid twelve for one of Bristol's finest imprints. Earlier this year the young man premiered a ridiculously bass heavy 12" on NakedLunch, but this time he's switched from Blake-ian dubstep to a swaggering yet soulful style of computerised groove akin to the like of Actress or his label mate Kowton. The beautifully balanced A-side 'Sleep' is bound to turn heads with that nagging interplay of vocal hook and sprightly dub chord, nodding at once to Basic Channel and the US House they were inspired by, while your ass simply won't be able to ignore the massive, subbass-driven rhythm underneath. Over on B-side the balance is tipped in favour of a more grazing, frictional sound sphere, pebble-dashing his thudding bass hits with a bit crushed coating for ruffer, ruder effect. Recommended!
