Boomkat Product Review:
Ramp Recordings and Flogsta Danshall are inescapably two of the coolest labels in the world right now. One pushing a hypercoloured brand of dubstep and 8-bit R'n'B, the other crystallizing electro into cheeky nuggets of Scandinavian synth-funk. So there's definitely some common ground to work on, which Ramp have taken the opportunity to exploit with a comp of pucker picks featuring Flogsta's finest Skweee pioneers. If you've been keeping an eye on the Skwee thing you'll recognise a good proportion of the names here, from Rigas Den Andre to Wankers United and many besides who have all appeared on the seminal skwee moment 'Museum Of Sound'. Selected by Flogsta label head Pavan, the comp opens wth Easy & Center Of The Universe's exskweeedingly naughty 8-bit version of Selda Bagcan's 'Yaz Gazeteci Yaz' titled 'Legend Of Selda', at once acting as a warning/clarion call for anyone daring to get involved. If you've got past that you'll find a whole world of neon glowing lo-fi electro inside, from Mesak's concentrated twitch funker 'Moto Gucci' to Spartan Lover's 'Sex With A Woman' sounding like Mortal & Chemist getting it on with Mantronix, this is a very satisfying primer for the world of Skweee.
