Boomkat Product Review:
Originally released in 2005, Singers cast various songs from the Mount Eerie and Microphones back catalogues into a new, choral setting. Of course, this isn't choral in any classical sense, but rather a group of Phil Elverum's pals (of mixed singing ability) helping out with some lovably ramshackle supporting vocals. This can work out rather well, as on 'Uh Oh It's Mourningtime Again', which seems ideally suited to a multiple vocal arrangement. The assembled singers are even on hand to whoop their way through a fuzzy, slightly overblown guitar solo. More subdued, yet no less off-the-cuff sounding, 'Where Is My Tarp?' sounds positively beautiful, and the piano-led ballad 'Human' is a real heartbreaker, so clearly the Mount Eerie Singers aren't merely some bunch of rowdy hooligans, wailing all over Phil Elverum's wonderfully sad songs. Another class act from the Mount Eerie discography.
