Boomkat Product Review:
Music From memory sublabel Second Circle welcome Indonesia’s Zatua to their fold for a heavy-lidded session - totally killer raw drum machine workouts and hypnotic instrumentation somewhere between Toresch, Demdike Stare and Carl Craig's mighty edit of The Congos' 'Congo Man'. Don't sleep on this!
Following from his head-turning inclusion on the Disk/DIVIS62 mini-compilation ‘Animisme’ in 2018, Wahono joins his pal Dea Barandana, co-founder of Frisbee Records, on seven serpentine groovers riddled with unique percussion and heavily under the influence of hot, sticky weather.
Accompanied by a stacked list of guest players on guitars, drum machines, Buchla Easel synth, bass, and flute, they cook up a strong disco broth snaking from the reticulated writhe of ‘Harimau’, thru what sounds like Toresch’s Far Eastern cousins in ‘Nun Vuelvas Más’, to bell-rocking disco psych in ‘Rubber Elite’, in-the-pocket jazz-funk sauce on ‘Hey Jaomal,’ and proper outernational vibes in their title tune.
