Boomkat Product Review:
Following their reissue of the excellent Parasites Of The Western World LP, De Stijl Records see fit to reappraise the work of the group's main man, Patrick Burke. 'Silence & Timing' was originally released in 1981, and possesses a more individual sense of innovation and unique arrangement than previous work with his group. It skips your typical DIY synth-pop frills in favour of a more glammed-up, big-hair-on-a-budget sound, touching on Thomas Dolby style pop odysseys, through pastoral, folksy guitar-and-synth melanges, to highway-burning mini-anthems. If you're only going to check one, make sure it's the skewed prog of 'The Resurrection (of Small Rodent)'. Hilarious and deeply endearing in equal measures. RIYL Twins, James Ferraro, vintage French and Canadian kids TV themes and cult early '80s pop.
