Boomkat Product Review:
Yacht's second album for DFA is a stylishly optimistic slab of nu-wave pop. "Shangri-La' argues that "Paradise is kinetic potential, a latency within us that has been eaten alive by time." Bolstered with this bold conceit, they fuse elements of hi-speed Afro-pop and NRG disco with pop hooks looking back to the B-52s or Talking Heads, all with their signature lyrical quirks and that insistent passion that's at the heart of all their music. It was produced, mixed, recorded and performed by Jona Becholt and Claire L. Evans with frequent collaborator and touring member Bobby Birdman, at the Marfa Recording Company, Jackpot! Studios, and in temporary living quarters in Los Angeles, California.
