Boomkat Product Review:
Complete with awesome, super-intricate artwork, this latest long-player from Stones Throw rising star James Pants was reportedly made "while reading mystical books and the book of Revelations". This is Mr Pants' proposed soundtrack to forming a cult. Don't go expecting any Charles Manson-esque folk shenanigans here though, this is a psychedelic slab of hip hop weirdness, infused with fuzzy Broadcast-like retro electronics, faintly silly vocals (that do actually sound as though they've been delivered whilst wearing a robe) and an inexplicable over-enthusiasm for sleigh bells - I know it's December and all but this definitely isn't a Christmas thing. There's much fun to be had here, and Pants' use of big, bassy reverb chamber drum production combines evocatively, in a Silver Apples sort of way, with scorching synth lines.
