Boomkat Product Review:
'Seed To Sun' is one of most highly anticipated albums to have come along in quite a while. A hard album to categorize it finds Bryan Hollon aka Boom Bip adopting a fresh new sound that owes as much to classic songwriting structures as the abstract sonic tinkering of 'Circle' and the post jazzbeat grooving of 'Voodoo Science'. For starters catch the epic string harmonics on the addictive soul fulfilling opener 'Roads Must Road'. 'Third Stream' adopts spoken word samples pasted across a dope double bass drop and scratched up beat loop - pure, state of the art turntablism. Buck 65 goes above and beyond on 'The Unthinkable' - genius lyrics and Dose One mystifies at his best on 'Mannequin Hand...'. Listening you hear live instruments and electronics in perfect unison - blurred into a glorious whole. Beats that could easily have been stolen from SND's hard-drive Crushing, epic, dope, highly charged, - just some of the many words that come to mind while listening to this excellent album. Boom Bip delivers - period. Electronica fused with hip hop undertones has become a genre in itself, call it click hop or whatever but Boom Bip has his own stamp that goes beyond easy classification. And as for the artwork and sleeve design, well, die cuts, gold leaf embossings, coffee cup stains...just genius. Call it classic.
