Boomkat Product Review:
Bar for a few notable exceptions (anyone remember Rialto?), it's safe to say, when a band recruits two drummers they mean business. Coughs are a particularly raw noise-rock band, throwing in a bit of skronk mayhem thanks to an occasional and unruly sax presence, something that takes the primal, garage-bound edge off vocalist Anya Davidson's visceral utterances. While at times freedom is the key to the band's sound (as on the sprawling free jazz of 'The Horse, He's Sick') at others they knuckle down into a tight groove, belting out tight repetitions throughout 'Bunny Slope'. Adding to the experience, it's all recorded in a fashion that makes you feel as if you're listening to the band whilst trapped in their rehearsal room, which makes for pretty heavy going listening, but Secret Passage overflows with energy.
