Boomkat Product Review:
For those in the know, Dump was always far more than just a Yo La Tengo side project, and it seems like Morr Music are the label that are ready to cast a spotlight on James McNew’s solo work once again. While he might still be best known for playing bass in ‘the other band’, McNew has been busily working on a charming catalogue of 4-track songs since the early 90s. ‘Secret Blood’ and ‘Slow Down’ are culled from his first two records, and aptly show the kind of raw and rugged songwriting that would become synonymous with the name Dump. A more familiar comparison might be Pavement, and of course there are links to Yo La Tengo too, but Dump is its own beast and in 2013 there’s more than enough room to rediscover these gems all over again.
