Boomkat Product Review:
Seapunk comes of age with it's first proper full length release from scene imagineer, Ultrademon. In the last year the aesthetics of a genre that was originally a chat-room in-joke has been co-opted by pop stylists and become the subject of "serious" journalism by the likes of NY Times and Chicago Reader. It's essentially a cloud genre, member of the vapourwave rhizome and effectively the legitimate offspring of Rephlexian IDM who young and reckless enough to currently court generation Y. Anyway, this album follows on from that mad 12" with a slightly more electroid and trap tang - as opposed to the previous footwork jungle ructions - shredding up traces of acid, techno, computer game music and American club sounds with a sense of gleeful, f**k-it-i'm-having-fun abandon and the attention span of a Japanese anime editor. If you don't "get it", you may well be too old for this kinda malarkey, but if you still like a packet of skittles now and then or still collect gundam wing toys, this will probably push your buttons. #Accelerationism.
