Boomkat Product Review:
White Material’s Alvin Aronson and Galcher Lustwerk double down on a sterling collection of Scenes 2012-2015 under their Studio OST handle for the 1st time.
With Detroit in the rearview and hazy Berlin and NYC vibes in the periphery, the duo knit a broad range of tempos and subtle shades to render a deliciously outta focus, dreamy headspace that works perfectly well as an LP collection.
The first plate sets the tone with glowing chords fringed by cicadas and night lights in Prelude, giving way to the deeply infectious bounce of Speed City’s romantic ghetto tech pressure before swerving down the lakeside slip road of Above the Waves and the radiant electro-soul swing of Bent Light, all at different tempos but coolly meshed with a twilight vibe.
The 2nd plate continues to nourish the soul with warm, fluid deep house pressure in ITCZ, and again on some dusky Belle Isle tip with Unnatural City, for 1 Parsec to really impress with some lush SND styles, followed by the NYC-meets-Sheffield 1991 aura of Session, and the weepy early Æ feels of Whitesands.
