Boomkat Product Review:
Oof yeah. The constantly impressive DJ Python takes PYTKO's sublime This Mortal Coil-esque dream pop darkness and adds that weightless, slo-mo swing that made "Mas Amable" unmissable. It's a next level side-room tripper that sounds like The xx produced by Visible Cloaks.
'Save My Day' is our first taste of Polish-born, London-based artist PYTKO's solemn, gothic pop, and we're impressed. 'Save My Day' and 'Wife' are indebted to the early years of 4AD, specifically the darker side of the label (think Dead Can Dance), but PYTKO warps it into the 2020s with thick, contemporary production that gives more than a nod to the experimental ambient world. 'Wife' is particularly memorable, spinning luxurious electronics and booming bass around a dislocated vocal.
But it's the DJ Python mix that's really got our attention. The New York producer follows his impressive recent run with yet another downtempo groover, this time building around PYTKO's echoing vocals. It's the perfect mix: romantic and druggy, but with serious fwd momentum. More of this, pls.
