Boomkat Product Review:
Seemingly seamless electro-acoustic studies on the santur - an ancient Iranian instrument - from master musician Hossein Malek and pioneering Belgian composer/sonic researcher Leo Küpper.
In a double refraction of sensibilities, Malek’s improvisations are imperceptibly filtered by his former student, Küpper’s electronic process, but without the prior knowledge of which is which, you’d be pushed to pick out the differences between their glittering, pointillist flurries of notes, such is the subtlety and psychedelic similarity of their results.
If you’ve ever fallen under the spell of Dariush Dolat-Shahi, Michael O’Shea, Korean classical court music or Laraaiji’s zither recordings, we reckon this disc will work its magic too.
