Boomkat Product Review:
Having immersed ourselves at length in Arve Henriksen's remarkable album 'Chiaroscuro' - one of the most exceptionally moving releases of the year - it's a joy to re-discover Henriksen's solo debut from back in 2001 - 'Sakuteiki'. Focusing around ancient Japanese motif's, Arve's incredibly fragile trumpet playing slowly melts into its surroundings : his unique technique of blowing words and ageless sounds into his mouthpiece, or the oddly moving sparse accompaniment of Organ, Harmonium and the breathless production technique of fellow Supersilent member Helge Sten, better known as Deathprod. "Sakuteiki" is less orchestrated or widescreen as 'Chiaroscuro', but its ageless romanticism and other-worldly beauty are no less cinematic. Deeply moving music - an absolute must.
