Boomkat Product Review:
Now on their third album, Our Brother the Native have come a long way since their charmingly naïve debut. Still a collaboration between school friends Chaz Knapp and Josh Bertram, the two musicians have set aside the darker focus of their last album in favour of a return to the jangly folk of their debut. 'Sacred Psalms' however is far more refined than either of its predecessors, the two having gained significant production experience in the interim. First the vocals are more confident and higher in the mix, but also instrumentally 'Sacred Psalms' is complex and almost studied. My initial thoughts when I heard the album were of Hood, oddly enough - with the blend of stuttering electronics and acoustic instruments bringing to mind the Domino band's incredible 'Cold House' LP. In my book there couldn't me much higher praise than that.
