Rudimentary Peni
Very necessary reissue of Rudimentary Peni’s 1981 deathrock blueprint, packing 12 minutes of thee most ferocious caterwauling and punkish revs galvanised with x amount of noisy abandon
Hot on the heels of their reissued debut album ‘Death Church’, the Crass-affiliated legends’ first EP is placed back into circulation, spitting out 12 tracks in as many minutes, and making everyone else seem like droning bores by comparison. Originally released by the band’s own label Outer Himalayan over 40 years ago, it’s balls to the wall, heck-peddling punk rock for the headstrong, scything their way thru white hot cuts that have become canon to the deathrock and anarcho-punk songbook. Even a cursory listen will tell you that this is the real shit, shy of the more melodic afflictions of US hardcore punk of that era, with ample info packed below the belt (and those scathing vocals) in their signature, diesel-fuming basslines and blistering drive. You’re either going to be 100% into it or not. No half stepping, pick a side.
