Rückverzauberung 9 / Musik Für Kulturinstitutionen
Sublime ninth edition in Wolfgang Voigt's series of oneiric travelogues from within the loop. 'Musik Für Kulturinstitutionen' was conceived and released to coincide with the Kompakt boss' appearance in the exhibition, 'Doofe Musik, Lieder zum Träumen, Betäuben und Vergessen' - which means 'Dumb music, songs for dreaming, numbing and forgetting' - currently showing at Berlin's HKW. In key with rest of the series, it questions the mechanics of time thru a prism of ambient music, hypnotically effected loops of brass and accordion which are at once static but ever-evolving in a process of dissolving and resolving, or as the Profan eloquently quip "an endless returning which, over time, becomes hypnotic and beguiling. 'Reverse Enchantment' however, also implies disenchantment, an act of demystification: the princess turned back into the frog." Recorded as part of his installation, it takes shape as five pieces, including three extended tracks, spiralling ever outwards/inwards with the strangely transcendent effect/appeal of sickly muzak, swirling sacred raga and '70s kraut electronics.
