Boomkat Product Review:
Afrodeutsche makes electro/house power moves on the opening gambit from Eclair Fifi’s River Rapid label. Marking the first release by Manny’s own Ghanaian/Russian/German artist since her resoundingly acclaimed debut LP for Skam, ‘RR001’ is fixed for the ‘floor with four strong examples of the hypnotic, full-bodied hardware traction she does so damn well.
All primed for Eclair Fifi’s DJ sets, ‘RR001’ rolls out with the byzantine synth mystery and pendulous swagger of ‘I Know Not What I Do’, before slugging the hardest bass under breezy organ riffs reminding us of Francis Bebey in ‘Make The Call’ for the back to ours crew. ‘Drink’ follows like a sozzled, stripped down and prowling Larry Heard joint with thee punchiest kicks you’ll hear all week, and ‘Phase Two’ gets testy on a vintage early Warp/SoYo bass flex with absolutely twisted bass pressure.
