Rosenkranz (Ø / Mono Junk Mixes)
Sahko have already blessed us with a series of 12" and full-length reissues from Mika Vainio's 'Ø' alter-ego, and here they resuscitate one of the greatest and most sought-after minimal twelves of all time. Originally released back in 1994, "Rosenkranz" finds Kompakt founder Wolfgang Voigt (aka Mike Ink, Gas, Love Inc, Studio 1) on devastating form, aided and abetted by two of his finest contemporaries - the aforementioned Ø / Mika Vainio AND Kim Rapatti - aka Monojunk. Voigt's originals are strange creatures, the title track unfolding without any bass-drums in sight, giving it a lost in anticipation vibe that shuffles without ever hitting the expected payoff. "Dativ", meanwhile, employs an almost jazz-based palette of sounds, gliding with sublime spaciousness and attention to detail. Over on the flipside Mono Junk delivers his "Melodymix", a more direct examination in 4/4, while the pummelling genius of the collaborative Vainio/Rapatti "Roughmix" ends the EP with a crushing minimal excursion that's as tough as it is precise. As expected, another out and out killer from this seemingly peerless imprint...
