Boomkat Product Review:
Montreal's David Kristian returns with Room Tone, an album of refined drones and subtle sound designs that are loaded up with atmospheric connotation. The track titles help set the scene: 'Basement Tone' is full of chilly subterranean tension while 'Dog Dreams Of Running' instils a rare moment of motion and rhythmic excitability. Kristian is undoubtedly at his best when he's constructing more sinister sounding works though, and the woozy tonal haze of 'Memoryard' is massively effective, and evocative of something intangibly ominous and distant. Elsewhere you'll hear the dark, impenetrable 'Loomis' and some beautifully foggy, distant groans on 'A Tail; How Unusual...', which could hardly sound any spookier. Highly recommended.
