Boomkat Product Review:
Manchester's Melodic label continue their explorations into indie rock with this latest EP from the garage-tastic Department of Eagles. Opening track 'Romo-Goth' is a lo fidelity electronic punk take on modern rock music and works surprisingly well. It sounds like it probably shouldn't work but give it a couple of minutes and you'll be nodding your head and tapping your feet with the best of them, and the crusty recording method works in it's favour. The B-Side is really where it's at though, an electronic/folk/indie hybrid which takes a crumbly looped drum pattern and layers over guitar and dreamy vocals which recall the Radiohead in their prime. Not ones to stop at this alone, Melodic have drafted in remixes in from scene champions Tunng and the unstoppable Daedelus. Tunng's mix adds a gorgeous swing to the proceedings (I'm a sucker for fairground music...) and Daedelus throws down some rave samples and synth stabs in his unique style. A lovely EP - highly recommended.
