NTS mainstay and Beyoncé collaborator cktrl examines contemporary classical forms from a Black perspective on "Robyn".
Over the last decade, Bradley Miller (aka cktrl) has materialized in various forms across London's underground music landscape. He was one of NTS Radio's original DJs, and has worked with or played alongside Kelela, Dean Blunt and Sampha among many others. More recently, he collaborated with Beyoncé, appearing briefly in "Black is Beautiful", and now offers his unique take on modern classical music.
"Robyn" is a fathoms-deep set of pensive, melancholy improvisations, featuring contributions from Duval Timothy, Campbell Addy, Coby Sey, Purple Ferdinand, Shirley Tetteh and CHILD Studios. And by infusing his brief, rainy vignettes with hints of R&B, tearful soul and charged jazz, Miller hits on an emotionally direct picture of contemporary London, illustrating the city's Black optimism in the face of adversity. Seriously this is such a touching set of tracks, we can't stop playing them.
Highly recommended.
