Quarter century remix refresh of the sleazy debut by key Kompakt player Reinhold Voigt, coupled with fellow Köln stablemates Jürgen Paape and Thore Pfeiffer.
‘Robson Ponte’ marked Reinhold Voigt’s debut under his own name after previously cutting tunes on older brother Wolfgang Voigt’s family of labels. The original version of the tune was among the earliest on Kompakt and helped set the tone for years to come with a concentrated, swaggering grind and droll vocal that throws us back to the dawn of tighter trousers and angular hair cuts that would spread from the likes of Köln and the London that gave us Nathan Barley.
The remixes go on like little has changed between 1999 and now, with Jürgen Paape rolling out the kinkiest canter in his ‘RP7’ mix, and finely poised, effortless tech house groove control of his ‘RP10’ mix, before heading off on a path perhaps only understood by Germans in the Alpine bop of his Grindelwald remix. Reinhard’s own remix of ‘RP25’ is a ruder, dub-chord driven highlight adjacent his sibling’s Grungerman aces, while Kompakt ambient cadet Thore Pfeiffer transforms it into pill-belly sublime with ‘Dies ist die Geschichte von Robson Ponte’.
