Boomkat Product Review:
Originally released in 2007, R.L.K is a blistering collection of avant clatter from New England percussionist and free musical explorer Eli Keszler. When you think of free percussion it’s easy to instantly draw a mental line to the Bjork-underwritten Chris Corsano, but connoisseurs know that it’s Keszler who really brings the smackdown when it comes to the drums. The almost micro-edited sounds that Keszler produces are nothing short of astonishing, and it can be hard to believe that R.L.K is the work of one man, solo. There are no overdubs here, just pure practice – Keszler has refined his craft to a slick, virtuoso level and somehow never lost that grimy feeling of pure punk. These tracks feel like basement jams, albeit jammed by someone who doesn’t just know what they’re doing, they own it. Huge recommendation.
