Boomkat Product Review:
Bassline seems like the most maligned of genres to me at the moment. Whether it started ten years ago at Niche or in the backstreets of Birmingham, grime, garage and most obviously dubstep purists hate it for being too, well, populist. As much as I try though, there's something unashamedly great about bassline - the skittering beats, the squelchy bounce of the bass, and that R&B edge that makes it such a hit with the chicks. Yes, I admit it people - I like bassline and yes indeed you can find me in the club shaking my pale behind with an overproof rum in one hand and a honey in the other. Possibly not but a boy can dream eh? This disc, from veteran DJ Paleface is a heady blend of top tracks, most of which you probably won't hear on your local supermarket compilation (seriously, go now and have a look) which is a relief. So those of us who like to think we're underground can buy this in the knowledge that our cool friends might not look down on us so much, while they secretly wish they had the guts to let go. Awesome stuff as usual from the Rinse crew, and a perfect starting point for anyone wishing to dip their toe into the UKs most vibrant urban club sound. Recommended.
