Boomkat Product Review:
Trust Bo Weavil to give a home to a release like this. Sharron Kraus goes about the none-more-folk task of writing acoustic ballads and jigs for the turning seasons. Each of these songs was written during, and inspired by a particular season, and furthermore, Kraus went about researching folkloric customs centred around seasonal transitions, doing her utmost to write and perform within a reverent, historically-informed context. The resultant album takes an unashamedly traditional slant on folk music, and to maintain a rigorous observation of her concept, Kraus even structures the album around the yearly cycle from Spring to the depths of Winter. This is a clever move by the songwriter, meaning that the album takes on a real sense of narrative, and by the time you get to the wonderful Christmas - sorry Yule - ballad, 'To Shorten Winter's Sadness', you'll have fallen wholeheartedly for this delightful collection of songs.
