Boomkat Product Review:
Classic reggae album recorded by the On-U Sound posse circa 1981, convening Singers & Players a.k.a. Style Scott on drums, plus Bim Sherman, Prince Far I, Glen Miller and Jah Woosh on mic alongside members of The Slits and Glaxo Babies, with Adrian Sherwood at the mixing desk.
That roll-call should have some of you salivating, and if it doesn't then the music will; an absorbing session steeped in dread vibes, seismic dub and enchanted, mellifluous praise to Jah, all laced with Sherwood's lysergic lattice of FX and deep rooted ballast.
The atmosphere is uniquely charged throughout Revenge of the Underdog, likely owing to its mixed-up studio crew, and at best when they play it loose and woozy, like in the feathered melodica, splashing FX and steppers kicks of Resolution Pt.2 / Version 2, or the super-louche stride of the opening cut, Dungeon.
