Boomkat Product Review:
The evolution of the modern string-plucker's take on vintage bluegrass and Takoma-style material continues to take interesting turns, as guitarist C. Joynes goes about blurring the lines between old American traditions, ancient Eastern references and experimental Brit-folk. The prepared guitar sounds of 'Nyambai Sawmill' prove especially striking, sounding like the rattling gamelan tones you'd hope to hear spilling out of some Javanese puppet theatre. Meanwhile, John Fahey circa Red Cross gets a nod on 'Bones For Dogsi' and another standout, 'Poison In The Well' yields the kind of haunting, string-endowed instrumentals we've come to expect from James Blackshaw. A varied and comfortingly rickety collection of instrumentals, proving that there's really no end of good stuff you can do with an open-tuned guitar.
