Boomkat Product Review:
Heading up the label and distribution company Submerge, Ade Henderson-Mainor (aka Mr. De) is a central spoke in any history of Detroit - both in terms of music and social considerations. Schooled in the art of mixing, Mr. De specialises in bringing together the lower-end of Booty with the up-tempo rattle of techno, resulting in a sound which spans electro, hip-hop, R&B and ghetto-tech. A post-industrial urban landscape only now finding a place within America's vision, Detroit has been home to some of the most astonishing music of recent decades - with 'Renaissance' Mr. De's addition to the canon. Bearing comparisons to the likes of Kenny Dixon Jnr. and many of the jazz top-table, 'Renaissance' is a thoroughly likeable album that takes it self just seriously enough without becoming all po-faced and over serious.
