Boomkat Product Review:
Powell, Vessel, Bandshell and The KVB break down Ike Yard's seminal self-titled album from 1982 in recombinant, killer new forms. The Powell remix is an absolute beast, shredding the original drums, vocal and guitar of 'Half A God' with diamond-cut edits held together by visceral, stinging electronics and a deranged, Florian Hecker-like breakdown marking a distinct evolution from his incredible and sought-after EP for Death Of Rave at the start of 2013. It's a sharp contrast with The KVB's take on 'Cherish 8', which employs the traces of the original in far more conventional manner, measured to a metronomic, motorik groove and smooth, sweeping synthlines, again sharply contrasting with the crushing compressions and acres of simulated, noxious cypherpunk space in Vessel's version of the same cut. Bandshell's restructuring of 'NCR' is thoroughly deglazed and abrasive, sanding down every drum, stab and vocal until it's raw and bleeding with an uncomfortable, shifty funk. Highly recommended!
