Remixes (Machinedrum / Blawan)
Ostgut's feted tag-team of Barker and Baumecker hand over a selection of album tracks to Machinedrum, Blawan, Kobosil and Third Side for four club-focussed reinterpretations. The techno crowd will be heading straight for the Blawan mix of 'Crows', which sounds, even more so than his similar recent gear, like an homage to the sound of 90s Downwards and Counterbalance, managing all at once to summon Regis's imperious tribalism, Surgeon's latinate drum-torque and BMB's avant-yob breakbeat science. Similarly retro-minded but less acutely engineered is the version of 'Schlang Bang' by Third Side (aka Steffi with Parasella's Lucretio and Marieu). For our money it's the best mix of the bunch: a scummy, strobing, nihilistic bleep 'n bass monster that makes you want to double-drop and lose your shoes. Machinedrum delivers a sultry, straightforward house fix of 'No Body' that'll do better business in Panoramabar and on UK 'floors, while the (currently) mysterious Kobosil opts for an earnestly stripped-down and darked-out treatment of 'Silo', custom-made for Klock, Dettmann, ACR and the rest.
