Boomkat Product Review:
With Ian William Craig’s remarkable Centres LP for FatCat’s 130701 still glowing in our rearview, the Canadian composer and his countryman, Olivier Alaury (Ensemble) put contrasting new spins on each other’s records.
Best known for his Ensemble album on Rephlex, Olivier Alaury plays nice and sensitive with Craig’s A Single Hope, descaling the original to reveal a sumptuous swell of ambient folk-drone pop hidden below the surface (although one of the chord changes just shoved Gary Barlow into my mind, and can’t unhear that now).
For his part, IWC applies his patented process of decay to Nollywood, and turns out something like Broadcast and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma tuning into numbers stations. We don’t use that lightly; this is a wonderful piece.
