Boomkat Product Review:
Bar a snap glimpse at things to come via the "Ulysses" EP some months ago, not a whisper has been heard from Fernando Corona since he headed countless end-of-year charts in 2002 (including ours!) with his amazing blend of strings and microscopic beats under the Murcof guise with his debut album "Martes". So, not quite the new release we were hoping for, but these two remixes (courtesy of Context labelmate Sutekh and Traum regular 'Fax') make for a very nice companion piece to the original versions you will all no doubt already know and love. Sutekh's 'Trisagion' mix of signature tune "Memoria" sees an excellent arrangement of samples and short snippets lifted off the original, re-worked and weaved into a new mesh of strings, solitary piano motifs and a crunched-up micro beat shuffle. The tone of the original is maintained while the form is taken to a much more overtly "up" destination. Lovely stuff. "Ulysses", meanwhile, is given a hallucegenic transformation courtesy of Fax, the sublime echo of cinematic strings from the original taken deep down into a slow motion caress of a pitter patter in 4/4, dubwise style. Brilliant stuff.
