Boomkat Product Review:
Official UK release for this fabulous, deeply eccentric singer-songwriter treasure, originally brought to you as an import item on Young God a couple of weeks back. This limited version comes with a booklet and extra, lush packaging. Call it adventurous lo-fi country with a theatrical slant that’s akin to early Will Oldham and his Bonnie Prince guise... retro tinged psych soul or something. Check the samples and catch the drift. Extra brownie points for getting Vashti Bunyan back into the recording studio for the duo lead title track. A mic for his voice, a few on his guitar, and one or two in the room (an old, Georgia-style southern house with tall ceilings, wood floors etc.), and that’s what you hear, for the most part, on these recordings (along with the occasional chorus of cicadas, when he happened to be recording at night, with the windows open). A few overdubs were added in New York, played by a host of musicians. Lovely.
