Boomkat Product Review:
This is pretty special: an album of unreleased home recordings made circa 1982-83 by Liquid Liquid percussionist Dennis Young - aye, the same fella sampled on Grandmaster Flash's 'White Lines'. Edited and arranged in summer 2014, it illuminates 16 pieces primed for the heads and DJs, ranging from dubbed-up, extended No wave disco roll-outs, thru singeing synth escapades equally comparable with Craig Leon and Bruce Lacey, via a number of little guitar ditties and experiments. It's perfectly symptomatic of that febrile air of creativity surrounding New York in that era, keen to expand the perimeters of minimalist set-ups and clearly wide-eyed with wonder at all manner of genre from kosmiche krautrock to African percussion, downtown disco, dub and avant-garde tape manipulation. Recommended!
