Boomkat Product Review:
Ostgut label manager, Panorama Bar resident and all-round Berlin bod, Nick Höppner drops one of his blue moon 12"s of classy house and techno. Coming from a man who's put in far more hours than most by the dancefloor, we take each one of his releases as a subtle masterclass in groovesome longevity. There's a tempered progressive element to his sterling A-side, 'Red Hook Soil' that goes down a treat, conducting fat rolling toms, dusted hi-hats and pensile chords with the sort of effortless, frictionless momentum that hypnotises and keeps dancers swinging for hours and hours and hours on end. Flipside, he applies that technique and aesthetic on two more technoid pieces, finding a sweetspot between jagged, dugga-dugga bass and elegant Detroit pads in 'Bait & Tackle', whilst 'Decal' tucks into a filter-swirled but robust techno structure perhaps more primed for the downstairs bang gang.
