Boomkat Product Review:
So this is a bit special… thanks to the efforts of a NIN forum, Coil's legendary and incredible 'Recoiled' versions of Nine Inch Nails are finally given an official release. Although never properly released - other than excerpts used in David Fincher's Se7en - the tracks have been in circulation for some years now yet never collected for a full release like this. It includes five extended and thorough revisions of some total NIN classics in just under 40 minutes, all crafted in the pre-Ableton era and ranging from a gutted and strung out version of 'Closer [Unrecalled]' - as used in Se7en - to a blinding deconstruction of 'The Downward Spiral [A Gilded Sickness]', to an extended and industrialized take on 'Gave Up [Open My Eyes]', and two reworks of 'Eraser' - a beatless 'Reduction', and a previously unheard, technoid 'Baby Alarm' mix with bespoke effects crafted from, you guessed it, a baby alarm. For many, it's debatable whether this is what the late great Peter Christopherson and Jhonn Balance would have wanted - as with all their posthumous releases and reissues - but it's really hard to argue when the thing is in your hands. Highly recommended.
