Boomkat Product Review:
This amazing electro/acoustic live trio first came to our attention via the Mego/Rhiz labels and now in 2002 find themselves signed to Thrill Jockey with John McEntire on the mixing desk. On 'Rec.Extern' Radian's earlier abstract soundpieces find more structure and focus. 'Nahfeld' is a post-jazz improv soundtrack, static, treated drum, vibraphone, industrial percussion, all played with a feeling for wide spaces but a darker soul. At some points a funked-up rhythm is hinted at before the studio lights go out. 'Jet' finds more studio trickery - this time, though, the focus is on a huge dissonant dub bassline wrapped round tempered noise, clattering percussion and tweaked sample sources. As good as the Supersilent '5' CD plus you get the added bonus of John McEntire's studio genius in full effectiveness. A mighty fine release.
